Okay, so I want to talk about a few things that are good in my experience. One is massage, the other is garlic. Omega 3's for next time.
Garlic, well, i go through periods were I eat at least a clove with my meals. It can be harsh on the stomach raw, but i believe that it is best raw. You can marinate it in olive oil, add it to some fish, or tuna, yum!! swirl it in some butter and put it on toast, do whatever. This miracle food is a natural antibiotic, it kills bacteria!! Lots of good antioxidants too. If you're afraid of getting sick...Garlic!!! You might turn your partner off if you eat it a lot though, but you wont get sick, or if you are feeling funky, it might kill whatever little germ might be hanging out.
Now, onto massage. Being a massage therapist, I have seen so many things. Some freaky deaky things and some sad things and some really stupid things. I would never tell someone that they are stupid, but sometimes you see people going all crazy day after day riding, instead of taking care of themselves, they wear themselved down into a twisted pulp of muscle and in comes me to save the day! When Justin is upping the intensity in his riding, he starts breaking down, the low back (work your core to conquer that), the hammies, the gluts, the IT band, all that gets strained. Recovery is so beneficial to performance and massage is one tool that can help you recover faster and more effectively. Blood circulation, elimination of lactid acid, toxin buildup, all that can be helped with massage. Active stretching, cold water ice baths also are good too. So go out and get a good vigourous sport massage. It will not feel good, it might be even slightly painful, but the next day you will be glad u did!!!!!
Im not an md, but i play one on tv...
